DOUGLAS WHYTE

Born on 15 November 1971 in Durban, South Africa, he has been Hong Kong's champion jockey for the past nine seasons and is a great favourite with the crowds. Four times local racing fans have voted him the Most Popular Jockey. He has won well over 1,000 races in Hong Kong, easily breaking Tony Cruz's former record of 946 career wins in December 2007.

His own record of most winners in a single season - 114, was set in 2005/06. By the end of 2008/09 season, he had won 1,120 races. He has formed a particularly successful partnership with the trainer John Size. His winners have come at all levels of racing. He has not in recent years been particularly associated with a top horse, however, he has enjoyed success in several Group One races, notably the Hong Kong Gold Cup and Hong Kong International Vase (Indigenous), the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (London News and Oriental Express), the Chairman's Prize (Oriental Express), the Centenary Cup (Best of the Best), the Stewards' Cup (Armada), and the Champions and Chater Cup (Packing Winner).
