JOHN SIZE

Aged 54, John Size was a top trainer in Sydney before accepting a licence to train in Hong Kong in 2001. He brought with him a reputation for being able to improve horses and rekindle a horse's racing spirit. But few were prepared for the utter single-mindedness and dedication of his approach. A man of actions, not words, John Size lets his horses do the talking and how eloquently they have spoken on his behalf.

He has established a quite remarkable record as a trainer, setting an example to others, as well as a benchmark to aim for - he won the trainer's championship in his very first season here. He has since added four more titles - in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008. By the end of last June, after eight seasons, John Size had trained 486 winners in Hong Kong, including the winners of two Horse of the Year titles, the multiple Group One winners Electronic Unicorn and Grand Delight. He also won the Audemars Piguet QE II Cup Group One with River Dancer in 2004 and that same year secured two legs of the Triple Crown with Super Kid. Last season he won the Champion's Mile Group One with Sight Winner.
