Education and Training

The Club's contribution to education and training in Hong Kong over the years has been multi-faceted, ranging from funding the building of new schools to sponsoring exchange programmes and setting up education funds and scholarships.

In the 1950s and '60s when there were mass influxes of Mainland immigrants, over 40% of the population were below 15, putting heavy pressure on the city's education system. The Jockey Club Modern School was established in 1960 to provide three-year education programmes aimed at preparing students for direct entry into employment or for further vocational training. It was later expanded to provide five-year secondary education and now offers the full seven-year curriculum.
