8. Wycombe (23) vs Gillingham (18)

Gills stay up with desperate point

TEAM NEWS

Wycombe are still without captain Adam Hinshelwood (knee), which means right back Lewis Hunt will have to continue as an emergency centre half.

The Chairboys will also have to do without striker Stuart Beavon for at least three months after he broke his ankle on Bank Holiday Monday. And fellow striker Alex Revell cannot play because his 93 day emergency loan deal from Southend ended last weekend.

Gillingham are likely to keep the experienced Josh Gowling at centre half as they seek the point that would ensure their safety.

Gills will again be without defenders Simon King and Garry Richards, who both have ankle problems and skipper Barry Fuller, who has a broken nose.

MATCH PREVIEW

Wycombe looked as though they might pull off a fantastic escape act after a three game winning sequence, their best run of the season. But a draw at home to Swindon and last week’s defeat at Leyton Orient has sent them back down to the league’s lowest tier, where they spent just two seasons after their promotion from the Conference in 1993.

Gillingham could go down with them if they fail to get a point and as one of only two sides in the whole country not to win away all season, they cannot be hopeful of a victory this time. A lot will depend on how much fight Wycombe have left after losing their place in the division.

The Gills are struggling with injuries which will once again leave them vulnerable in defense. So it promises to be a nervous 90 minutes for a team who have managed just six points from 22 away games.

Wycombe, however, have won only two of their last 12 home games and that, ironically, was against a Millwall side still hoping to go up automatically. This promises to be a tight and unentertaining spectacle and will probably end up a goalless draw.

HEAD TO HEAD

Wycombe have won the last two home league meetings but have won only three out of six overall.

In 18 meetings between the sides in all competitions, there has never been a goalless draw.
