5. Oldham (16) vs Charlton (5)

Charlton to end with a point

TEAM NEWS

Oldham manager Dave Penney has left teenager Tom Eaves out of his squad because contract talks have broken down. Penney says: “I won’t pick him again until he signs”.

Midfielder Dean Furman is doubtful because of a knee injury.

Charlton goalkeeper Rob Elliot will probably have to sit on the bench again after recovering from injury as manager Phil Parkinson keeps faith with his replacement Darren Randolph.

The Addicks hope to have some money to strengthen the squad next season after selling teenage midfielder Jo Shelvey to Liverpool for £1.7 million.

MATCH PREVIEW

This is a tough last day fixture for Charlton on a ground where they have a poor record and against an Oldham team who have been showing some good form at times in recent weeks. And it is away from home that Charlton have lost their way a bit, winning eight times but drawing nine games.

They need a win here if they are going to have any chance of taking second spot and even then, the other results would have to go in their favour. It’s a tricky one for manager Phil Parkinson, who knows that his team is unlikely to go up automatically but does not want to rest players and then find out that scores elsewhere mean a victory could propel them into the Championship. He will probably start with his strongest team and take players off depending on the scores from the other playoff clubs.

Oldham lost at Yeovil 0-3 last week, the first loss in last 6 league games.  They have nothing to play for but after a nondescript season, they will want to give their fans something to cheer and to give them hope that they can push for promotion themselves next season. It is unlikely to be the most pleasing game on the eye and will probably end in a point for each side.
